Week Note #30 - Jan 23 to Jan 29

Caution
Alcohol, U.S. politics
I almost went to bed without writing this, because I 100% forgot about it. I got too caught up in my school work, hah. I had just finished watching a lecture on African-American poets during the Civil War, and was very ready for bed. But then I realised that today is Week Note Wednesday.
- ๐ฅ My work gave me a bottle of champagne for my promotion. Bold of them to assume that I and other promotees drink alcohol (I do indeed drink alcohol). My aunt was hosting a party over the weekend and we brought it over. Drank with my cousins and a few of the titas. The champagne was alright, very dry, though.
- ๐งโ๐ป Speaking of work, I moved to a different team. They use an entirely different tech stack and workflow so I've been spending most of my time pairing with people to learn. It feels nice to be the newbie again for once, but I still feel like I need to step it up soon, especially since I've been promoted. However, I still don't have access to the dev environment, which is out of my control, unfortunately.
- ๐ Had two papers due on Monday, so I had to take weekend to lock in and get everything done. I pulled a near all-nighter, first school-related one in many years. My sleep schedule is fucked!
- ๐ฆ
I'm taking an American history course, because it's a requirement for my degree. It's main focus is on the Civil War, and, I gotta say, there are a lot of parallels that I'm seeing. I'm Canadian and never really properly learned American history (it was always a quick footnote in Canadian textbooks), and I find it quite interesting.
- ๐ Barely did any reading. I read some chapters of Murder on the Links but have yet to finish it.
- ๐๏ธ My dad wanted to go for a walk over the weekend, but it's still cold outside, so we went to the mall to walk. That's pretty much the only good thing about malls, they're the only free place to loiter that has indoor heating.
๐ต Music
- ๐ฟ While at the mall, I wandered into the music store. I bought Past Lives by L.S. Dunes (CD version because I like the art more than the LP they had), Kerplunk by Green Day (it's one of the few CDs missing from my Green Day collection), and The Gate by Bjรถrk (there's a pretty rainbow design on it so I had to, also Bjรถrk).
- ๐ช If you can't see this emoji just yet, it's a harp. I've been listening to so much Joanna Newsom, more than I ever have before. I am so happy. Mostly free from Spotify's shackles at this point.
- โจ FKA twigs new album, Eusexua came out! It's great, but not mind blowing. I think her magnum opus will forever be MAGDALENE, and that's tough to beat. Still, I enjoyed it. I think the title track is my favourite from the album.
Top albums:
- Eusexua by FKA twigs
- Perverts by Ethel Cain
- Past Lives by L.S. Dunes
- Selfish Machines by Pierce the Veil
- Lush by Snail Mail
- AM by Arctic Monkeys
- Ys by Joanna Newsom
- Recreation 2 by Acid Black Cherry
